PROFIBUS PA

PROFIBUS PA is the process automation application profile of PROFIBUS, used to connect process field devices on a fieldbus. PA segments connect to PROFIBUS DP through a coupler or linking device, and can also connect directly to PROFINET using proxy technology. PA Profile V3.02 allows a replacement device to take over the predecessor's role without interrupting system operation.

PROFIBUS is standardized in IEC 61158.
PROFIBUS PA Profile V3.02 lets a replacement field device automatically take over the role of its predecessor, including across device generations, without interrupting system operation.
A PROFIBUS PA string connects to PROFIBUS DP through a coupler or linking device.
PA segments can be connected directly to PROFINET using proxy technology.
Diagnostic data display is sorted according to NAMUR NE 107.
MBP (Manchester Coded Bus Powered) transmission technology provides a typical supply current of 10–15 mA on the bus cable for bus-powered field devices.
PA Profile 3.02 includes a NAMUR-compliant diagnostics concept.
