Universal Robots UR30

The UR30 is a six-axis collaborative robot arm from Universal Robots, operated through the PolyScope X touchscreen interface. It has a 30 kg payload, a 1300 mm reach, and ±0.1 mm pose repeatability, and it is intended for industrial handling, processing, or transfer tasks. Built-in safety functions support collaborative applications when configured through the application risk assessment.

Study notes

  • Control Box I/O: 16 digital inputs, 16 digital outputs, 2 analog inputs, 2 analog outputs; 24 V/2 A supply.
  • Tool I/O: 2 digital inputs, 2 digital outputs, 2 analog inputs; tool power 12/24 V, 2 A dual-pin or 1 A single-pin.
  • Typical program power consumption is approximately 300 W; the maximum stated power consumption is 750 W.
  • Control Box weight is 12 kg; Teach Pendant weight is 1.8 kg; robot footprint is Ø245 mm.
  • Robot arm materials are aluminium, PC/ASA plastic, and steel.
  • Cleanroom classification: robot arm ISO Class 4, Control Box ISO Class 4, Teach Pendant ISO Class 1.
  • The document also lists PROFIsafe and UR Connect as fieldbus options.
  • System update frequency is 500 Hz.
  • Pose repeatability is specified per ISO 9283.
  • Payload can be expanded to 35 kg with boundary conditions such as vertical tool orientation and center of gravity within nominal reach.
  • Ambient temperature range is 0–50 °C, with reduced performance from 35 °C and up.
  • Robot cable high-flex PUR options are 3 m, 6 m, and 12 m.

Safety

  • Safety functions: 17 safety functions; PLd Category 3 per EN ISO 13849-1.
  • Emergency stop uses Stop Category 1; safeguard stop uses Stop Category 2 (IEC 60204-1).
  • UR30 requires an external enabling device or a 3PE Teach Pendant when programming or teaching within reach; a Teach Pendant without 3PE will not work with UR30.
  • Lifting device must be capable of lifting 63.5 kg for the UR30 robot only.
  • Mount the robot arm to a sturdy, vibration-free surface; secure the base with six M10 class 8.8 bolts tightened to 45 Nm.
  • Prevent tip-over of movable platforms; robot operational loads can tip tables or mobile robots.
  • Tool mounting bolts must not extend beyond 17.25 mm into the tool flange.
  • Do not use for medical or patient-proximity applications, people lifting, or food and hygienic applications; UR joint grease is not food grade.
  • Operating environment must suit the IP ratings: robot arm IP65, Teach Pendant IP54, Control Box IP44.
  • Use a power plug lockout to prevent reconnection during maintenance; high voltage up to 600 V can remain in the Control Box power supply for several hours.
