Epson RC800-A

The Epson RC800-A is a robot controller for Epson manipulators. It executes robot programs in Epson RC+ and SPEL+, controls motors and safety functions, and connects to peripherals through standard I/O, safety I/O, Ethernet, USB and option boards. It is intended for industrial robot systems in a safe, isolated area.

Study notes

  • Model A consists of R131A (GX4-C), R131B (GX8-C/GX10-C/GX20-C) and R131C (GX1-C); Model B is R136B (C8-C/C12-C).
  • The weight table lists 11 kg for R131A (GX4-C) and 12 kg for R136B (C8-C/C12-C); R131B and R131C are listed without a separate weight value in the extracted text.
  • Standard I/O has 24 inputs and 16 outputs; R-I/O has 4 inputs.
  • Three option slots accept expansion I/O, RS-232C, pulse generator and analog I/O boards; expansion I/O adds 24 inputs and 16 outputs per board.
  • Fieldbus options include CC-Link and Modbus, which have no matching reference id in the provided list.
  • Programming uses Epson RC+ and SPEL+; PTP speed is programmable from 1 to 100%, and CP speed is set as an actual speed.
  • Storage limits: 4 MB maximum object size, 1,000 points per file, backup variable area maximum 768 kB.
  • Ethernet port is 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX/1000BASE-T; default IP address is 192.168.0.1 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
  • Power supply maximum rated capacity is 2.5 kVA; full load current is 15.0 A and short-circuit current rating is 5 kA.
  • Installation ambient temperature is 5 to 40 °C and relative humidity 20 to 80% without condensation; overvoltage category 2 and pollution level 2.
  • Model A has a power switch lockout mechanism; Model B does not, so lockout/tagout must use the disconnecting device.
  • Safety/EMC standards named in the manual include ISO 10218-1/-2, ISO 12100, ISO 13849-1, ISO 13850, ISO 13855, ISO 13857, ISO 14120, IEC 60204-1, CISPR 11 and IEC 61000-6-2.

Safety

  • Safety functions include STO, emergency stop, safeguard (protective stop), enable, soft axis limiting and safety outputs; SLS and SLP are optional paid functions.
  • Safety I/O has 5 redundant inputs and 3 redundant outputs, Cat. 3 PLd; outputs are source-only, +24 V ±10%, max 100 mA per output.
  • Emergency stop can be triggered from the emergency stop input connector, a safety I/O channel configured for emergency stop, or the Teach Pendant emergency stop switch.
  • At least one safeguard (SG) must be assigned; when the safeguard opens, a protective stop (SO) occurs and automatic operation is prohibited until the safeguard is closed and the latch is released, or TEACH/TEST is used with the enable circuit.
  • Soft Axis Limiting triggers an emergency stop and STO if an axis exceeds its set range; SLS triggers emergency stop and STO if the robot exceeds the set speed limit.
  • STO opens a relay to cut motor power and is operated indirectly by emergency stop, protective stop, or safety-board abnormality; it cannot be operated directly.
  • Enable is provided only through an Epson Teach Pendant; if the enable switch is not in the middle position, SS1 is executed and the robot enters STO.
  • Safety I/O requires a SELV-certified external power supply; input wire is AWG24 to 16 or ferrule terminals, length 20 m or less.
  • EStopOn, EStopOff, TeachMode and EnableOn outputs do not meet Cat. 3 PLd and must not be used for safety-related functions.
  • The brake signal is not IEC 61800-5-2 Safe Brake Control certified; a malfunctioning brake signal can let the arm fall.
  • The emergency stop switch must be a normally closed, non-auto-reset, red mushroom switch with two form B contacts; mismatched redundant inputs for 2 seconds or more are an error.
  • Do not connect TP1, TP-3, OP500, OP500RC, JP500, OP1 or the dummy plug to the TP port; the different signal arrangement can damage the device.
