ASME Y14.5-2018

ASME Y14.5-2018 is a standard that establishes symbols, rules, definitions, requirements, defaults, and recommended practices for stating and interpreting geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and related requirements on engineering drawings, models defined in digital data files, and related documents. It provides uniformity in drawing specifications and interpretation to communicate design intent for form, fit, function, and interchangeability.

The 2018 edition replaces ASME Y14.5-2009.
Model views were added in many figures because of CAD use and reduced reliance on orthographic views.
The revision emphasizes profile for location tolerances applied to surfaces.
Important changes include the concept of feature of size; datum references and degrees of freedom; composite position tolerances; surface boundaries and axis methods of interpretation; profile tolerances; and symbology and modifiers tools.
Profile, orientation, and form are in separate sections, and material within sections was reorganized.
