IEEE 802.1 Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN)

IEEE 802.1 TSN is a task group within the IEEE 802.1 Working Group. It defines deterministic connectivity over IEEE 802 networks, with guaranteed packet transport, bounded latency, low packet delay variation, and low packet loss. Its standards include the former Audio Video Bridging (AVB) standards.

TSN TG is part of the IEEE 802.1 Working Group.
TSN TG evolved from the IEEE 802.1 Audio Video Bridging (AVB) TG; TSN standards include the AVB standards.
TSN TG includes the former IEEE 802.1 Interworking TG.
Original AVB work was done as part of the Residential Ethernet Study Group of IEEE 802.3.
Base standards include IEEE 802.1Q-2022, 802.1AB-2016 (LLDP), 802.1AS-2025 (timing and synchronization), 802.1AX-2020 (link aggregation), 802.1CB-2017 (frame replication and elimination for reliability), and 802.1CS-2020 (link-local registration protocol).
Profile standards include IEEE 802.1BA-2021 (AVB), IEEE 802.1CM-2018 (fronthaul), IEEE 802.1DG-2025 (automotive), IEEE 802.1DP-2025 / SAE AS 6675 (aerospace), and IEC/IEEE 60802 (industrial automation).
Published amendments include IEEE 802.1Qbv-2015 scheduled traffic, IEEE 802.1Qbu-2016 frame preemption, IEEE 802.1Qci-2017 per-stream filtering and policing, and IEEE 802.1Qch-2017 cyclic queuing and forwarding.
IEEE 802.1AS-2011's point-to-point 802.3 sublayer is a specific profile of IEEE Std 1588-2008.
Project IDs use capital letters for standalone documents and lowercase letters for amendments; a P prefix indicates a project.
