Build to order

Build to order is a production condition in which production lead time and order lead time are less than the time the customer is prepared to wait for the product. The producer builds products entirely to confirmed order rather than to forecast. Lean thinkers pursue this condition because it avoids demand amplification and waste from building products based on guesses about customer demand.
