LinuxCNC G92 Coordinate System Offset

G92 is a LinuxCNC G-code that sets the current controlled point to the coordinates given by its axis words without producing motion. It does this by shifting the origins of all coordinate systems so the current point takes the specified value, and stores the resulting per-axis offsets in parameters 5211-5219. At least one axis word is required; axes not named receive a zero offset.

Parameters

NameDescription
axesAxis words (X Y Z A B C U V W). All are optional, except that at least one must be used. An axis word that is not used for a given axis gives that axis a zero offset.

Study notes

  • Incremental distance mode (G91 instead of G90) has no effect on the action of G92.
  • When G92 executes, the origins of all coordinate systems (G53-G59.3) are offset by the same distance.
  • G92 uses parameters 5211-5219 as the X Y Z A B C U V W offset values, stored as absolute machine coordinates in native machine units.
  • If a G92 offset is already active, a new G92 replaces it with an offset that makes the current point become the specified value.
  • LinuxCNC stores G92 offsets and reuses them on the next program run; G92.1 erases them and G92.2 removes them while keeping parameters 5211-5219 available.
  • G92.3 restores the G92 offset from values saved in parameters 5211-5219.
  • Example: with the current point at X=4 and no G92 offset active, G92 X7 moves all origins -3 in X, makes the current point X=7, and stores -3 in parameter 5211.

Safety

  • Only use G92 after the machine has been positioned to the desired point.
