Makino U53j

The Makino U53j is a wire electrical discharge machining (EDM) system with a stationary work table and travels of 550 mm in X, 370 mm in Y, and 220 mm in Z. It uses the Hyper i control with a 24-inch class HD touchscreen and a three-step Program/Setup/Run workflow. The machine is intended for high-precision molds, stamping tools, and medical components, with surface finishes down to 0.08 µmRa using the Crystal Circuit.

Study notes

  • Work table: 810 x 560 mm. Work tank: 970 x 710 mm.
  • Available wire diameters: 0.08, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.25, and 0.3 mm; optional wire sizes down to 50 µm (0.002 in).
  • U-axis and V-axis travel: ±1.97 in each.
  • Maximum workpiece size: 37.8 x 27.2 x 8.7 in.
  • Maximum workpiece weight: 3,307 lbs.
  • Axis accuracy: 3 µm (0.0001 in) straightness; 4 µm (0.00015 in) squareness and parallelism.
  • Surface finish down to 0.08 µmRa (34 µinRa) with the Crystal Circuit.
  • Hyper i control: 24-inch class HD touchscreen, pinch/swipe/drag interface, and 3-step Program/Setup/Run operation.
  • Standard equipment includes a full-function advanced Handbox, digital onboard electronic manuals, instructional training videos, and E-Tech Doctor help functions.
  • Stationary work table construction eliminates dielectric weight shifting that occurs with moving-table designs.
  • Dielectric reservoir is integrated into the base casting; chilled air circulates throughout internal machine covers to mitigate thermal growth.
  • Optional 3D Probe system and H.E.A.T. technology for poor-flush applications.
