Makino Slim5n

The Makino Slim5n is a 3-axis vertical machining center with an 800 mm x 400 mm table and axis travels of 710 mm (X), 400 mm (Y) and 410 mm (Z). Its HSK-A50 spindle runs at 16,000 rpm and a 26-position automatic tool changer handles tool changes. The machine is intended for production part milling and also provides drilling and tapping capability.

Study notes

  • Spindle speed is 16,000 rpm as standard, with an 8,000 rpm spindle option available.
  • Cutting feedrate range is 1 to 20,000 mm/min.
  • Rapid traverse is 60,000 mm/min on X and Z, and 50,000 mm/min on Y.
  • Maximum workpiece size is 1,175 mm x 545 mm x 511 mm, with limitations.
  • The 26-tool ATC uses an armless direct tool pick design with an integral door.
  • Structure is a closed frame design with a pair of long supporting columns, optimized using FEA.
  • Coolant system provides nozzle and flush coolant; work zone has sloped surfaces for chip evacuation.
  • A lift-up chip conveyor is located at the rear of the machine.
  • Auto doors are included; a robot interface is available as an option.
