Makino EDFH-1

The Makino EDFH-1 is an EDM machine that combines high-accuracy EDM hole drilling with standard sinker EDM processing on a single platform. It uses a stationary work table, a programmable three-sided rise-and-fall work tank, and a high-speed C-axis for rotation up to 2,000 rpm. Control is through Makino's Hyper-i interface with a 24-inch class touch screen.

Study notes

  • ATC capacity is listed as either 8 or 16 tool positions.
  • Work tank size is 450 x 350 x 200 mm (17.7" x 13.8" x 7.9").
  • Achieves surface finishes down to 1.3 µin Ra (0.25 µm Rz).
  • Generator can produce inside corner radii as small as 5 µm (0.0002").
  • Z-axis jump speed is 10 m/min (394 ipm) with ±1 µm depth control using a core-cooled ball screw.
  • High-speed C-axis rotates up to 2,000 rpm; a programmable W-axis provides rigid alignment for EDM drilling die guides.
  • A middle guide arm supports small-diameter electrodes and prevents vibration, with flushing pressures up to 10 MPa (1,450 psi).
  • Alignment tolerances are 2 µm (0.00008") or smaller over the full stroke of each axis.
  • Thermal stability measures include isolating the electrical/generator cabinet heat from the machine structure and integrating the dielectric reservoir into the base casting.
  • The Hyper-i control uses a 24-inch class high-definition touch screen, includes the E-Tech Doctor function, on-board machine manuals with training videos, and supports remote monitoring.
  • The Hyper-i control is not among the controller entries in the reference list, so it is not recorded in the controllers field.
