Makino a71nx

The Makino a71nx is a 4-axis horizontal machining centre that uses a 500 mm square pallet and a CAT50 (HSK-A100 optional) spindle. It has 800 mm X, 750 mm Y and 830 mm Z travels, a 10,000 rpm spindle rated at 37 kW, and rapids of 50 m/min on X and Y and 60 m/min on Z. A direct-drive NC rotary B-axis table indexes 90° in one second and carries workpieces up to 1000 kg.

Study notes

  • B-axis is a 360° direct-drive NC rotary table (DD NCRT) with 90° indexing time of 1 second.
  • Cutting feedrate is 50,000 mm/min.
  • Maximum workpiece size is ø900 mm x 1,000 mm.
  • ATC capacity is 60 tools, expandable to 136, 187 or 299.
  • Tool-to-tool change time is 1.7 s and chip-to-chip time is 3.6 s, both for tools of 20 kg or less.
  • Maximum tool diameter is 300 mm; maximum tool weight is 20 kg, or 30 kg with limitations.
  • Spindle duty rated torque is 512 Nm.
  • Inertia Active Control (IAC) monitors B-axis motor load, estimates fixture weight and adjusts acceleration and deceleration of the B and Z axes.
  • A Vision type broken tool sensor in the ATC magazine checks drills, taps and other single-point tools.
  • Tapping time is reduced by 20% compared with the previous model.
  • Machine construction uses a robust casting design and large roller-type linear guides; the way covers are a single-piece design and the tool-change arm is dual-supported.
