GROB G340

The GROB G340 is a machining center with four motor spindles arranged in parallel, allowing four workpieces to be machined at the same time in one cycle. It has a swivel/rotary table and horizontal motor spindles, and workpieces are machined from above so chips fall away. It is built for high-volume series production and can run as a standalone machine or be integrated into automated lines with gantry, robot or cell automation.

Study notes

  • Working travels X/Y/Z are 650/1,050/920 mm; the Y travel is 1,300 mm only on the AF machine version.
  • Maximum axis speeds are given as 90 m/min in X, 50 m/min in Y and 120 m/min in Z.
  • Spindle speed range is 12,000 to 18,000 rpm; four motor spindles are arranged in parallel.
  • Chip-to-chip time t1 according to VDI 2852 is 2.4 s with a SIEMENS control system.
  • Interference diameter is stated as 4x698 mm.
  • Positioning accuracy in X/Y/Z is 0.006 mm according to ISO 230-2:2014 (accuracy, not repeatability).
  • Table load is 4x350 kg across the A- and B-axis tables.
  • Axis concept combines linear and rotary axes to give 5-side machining in a single setup.
  • Chip disposal is handled by a flushing trough, a conveyor system or direct discharge.
  • Typical workpieces listed are stator housings, knuckles and front knuckles in aluminium alloy, plus hydraulic and medical components.
