DMG MORI LASERTEC 160 PowerDrill

The LASERTEC 160 PowerDrill is a five-axis laser drilling machine for large turbine components, using a travelling column design to keep rigidity constant across the work area. Its linear axes travel 1600 mm in X, 1000 mm in Y and 1000 mm in Z, and it is controlled by a Siemens 840D solutionline with LASERSOFT PowerDrill software. It drills cooling-air holes without electrodes or tool contact, so there is no tool wear.

Study notes

  • The page covers two variants: LASERTEC 100 PowerDrill (X stroke 1000 mm) and LASERTEC 160 PowerDrill (X stroke 1600 mm); Y and Z strokes are 1000 mm on both.
  • Control is Siemens 840D solutionline with the LASERSOFT PowerDrill / PowerShape software packages; no matching controller entry exists in the reference list.
  • Document states positioning accuracy P10 to DIN ISO 2230-2 over the whole work area, achieved with a travelling column concept.
  • X and Y axes are driven by linear drives at 80 m/min and 7 m/s²; motors, linear guides and ball screw drive are water-cooled.
  • Workpiece capacity: component diameter up to 1100 mm and maximum height 1500 mm.
  • Available with a high-precision 12-23 kW QCW fibre laser.
  • Optional B-axis laser head with ±150° range; table variants include B- and C-axis.
  • Machine options include variable collimation, breakthrough detection, capacitive distance sensors, a conoscopic sensor and an optional tool changer.
  • A high-speed shutter enables Synchro-Drill (drilling synchronised with a rotating component); PatternDrilling drills segments or single rows.
  • PowerShape version (from Q1/2023) machines shaped hole geometries with conical exit funnels, versus the PowerDrill version for pure laser drilling.
