Brother HU550Xd1-5AX

The Brother HU550Xd1-5AX is a horizontal machining centre built around a tilting rotary table that adds A and B rotary axes to the X, Y and Z linear axes, giving five simultaneously controlled axes. It carries a 30-tool magazine, a 12,000 min-1 spindle and a 400 mm diameter rotary table rated for 200 kg, allowing large workpieces to be machined in a single clamping. Five-axis functions including tool centre point control with look-ahead of up to 1,000 blocks are included on this model.

Study notes

  • Tilting rotary table: 400 mm diameter work area, A axis 30 to -120 deg, B axis 360 deg; max table load inertia 4.1 kg·m2 (8.8 kg·m2 in high inertia mode).
  • A axis uses tandem control with two motors; roller gear cam mechanism is used on both A and B axes.
  • Indexing feed rate: A axis 50 min-1, B axis 75 min-1 (60 min-1 in high inertia mode); indexing time for 90 deg is 1.2 s on both axes.
  • Clamping torque: A axis 1,200 N·m, B axis 700 N·m (mechanical clamp at 0.5 MPa pneumatic plus servo clamp).
  • Main spindle motor (10 min/continuous): 12,000 min-1 spec 10.1/7.0 kW; 10,000 min-1 high-torque option 12.8/9.2 kW; 20,000 min-1 option 7.4/5.1 kW.
  • Spindle torque/output: standard 12,000 min-1 40 N·m / 18.9 kW; optional high-torque 92 N·m / 26.2 kW; optional 20,000 min-1 27 N·m / 15.4 kW.
  • Tool shank MAS-BT30, pull stud MAS-P30T-2; max tool length 350 mm, max tool diameter 125 mm, max tool weight 4.0 kg (total tool weight 50 kg).
  • Tool change time: tool-to-tool 1.3 s, chip-to-chip 2.5 s; tool selection is random shortcut method.
  • Accuracy and repeatability (ISO 230-2): bidirectional positioning X, Y, Z 0.006~0.020 mm, A/B 28 sec or less; repeatability X, Y, Z less than 0.004 mm, A/B 16 sec or less.
  • CNC unit CNC-D00v (DB) on the HU550Xd1-5AX; 5 control axes, linear interpolation up to 5 axes, 15-inch colour LCD touch display, 3 GB memory, OPC UA standard.
  • Optional network interfaces: CC-Link master/remote device station, PROFIBUS DP slave, DeviceNet slave, PROFINET slave, EtherNet/IP slave; USB, Ethernet and optional RS232C external communication.
  • Machine height 2,682 mm, required floor space 1,557 x 2,744 mm (3,582 mm with control unit door open), installation space 5.0 m2 including coolant tank; air supply 0.4-0.6 MPa at 45 L/min.

Safety

  • Maximum tool length, diameter and weight are subject to limitations depending on spindle speed, tool geometry or centre of gravity; the listed figures are for reference only.
  • When attaching an adjacent tool, the total diameter of a tool and its adjacent tool must be less than 130 mm.
  • Regular air pressure varies with machine specifications, machining program and peripheral equipment; set the pressure higher than the recommended 0.5 MPa.
  • An interference area is created depending on tool length or tool diameter.
  • Stuck chips caught between spindle and holder during ATC are detected without a sensor, and a retry function is provided to prevent outflow of defects.
  • A relocation detection device must be fitted depending on the destination; such machines carry the RD suffix in the model name.
