IEC 61508-1:2010 is a basic safety publication that gives general requirements for electrical/electronic/programmable electronic (E/E/PE) safety-related systems when they carry out safety functions. It is intended to support the development of product- and application-sector international standards and to allow E/E/PE safety-related systems to be developed where such sector standards do not exist. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 1998 and is a technical revision.
