# SRCI - Standard Robot Command Interface

Protocols · `SRCI` · verification: source checked

SRCI (Standard Robot Command Interface) is an open standard for programming and operating robots from a PLC. It uses a client-server remote procedure call model: a client on the PLC sends command messages to a server/interpreter on the robot controller, which executes the command and returns a response. Communication is fieldbus-agnostic and can be implemented over PROFINET or other fieldbuses.

## Study notes

- SRCI standardizes communication between the robot controller and the PLC.
- The server is called the interpreter and resides on the robot controller; the client runs on the PLC.
- SRCI specifies over 119 commands, including basic move commands such as linear movements and force control.
- A function must be supported by both the server and the client to be used.
- Commands are grouped into Profile Core, Profile Extended, and optional commands.
- Profile Core provides basic commands and core functionality; every broad-release SRCI implementation supports at least Profile Core commands.
- Profile Extended and optional commands can be added individually by manufacturers; availability is listed in the SRCI Vendor Map.
- SRCI provides robot commands as function blocks in PLC engineering tools.
- PROFINET isochronous mode is not necessary for SRCI.
- The SRCI Vendor Map lists products supporting SRCI and function availability down to supported parameter values.
