# OEE Performance Rate

Operations · `Performance Rate` · verification: source checked

Performance Rate is one of the three elements of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), a Total Productive Maintenance measure. It measures operating speed losses, including running at speeds lower than design speed and stoppages lasting a few seconds. OEE multiplies availability, performance, and quality rates to express how effectively equipment is used.

## Study notes

- Performance Rate is the P term in OEE = A × P × Q, where A is Availability Rate and Q is Quality Rate.
- The document's worked example uses A = 0.90, P = 0.95, and Q = 0.99, giving 0.846, stated as 84.6% OEE.
- OEE typically focuses on six major losses: failures, adjustments, minor stoppages, reduced operating speeds, scrap, and rework.
- Some companies add other measures judged important to their business to OEE.
- The document refers to Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) as the see-also topic for OEE.
