# OEE Availability Rate

Operations · `Availability Rate` · verification: source checked

Availability rate is one of the three elements of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). It measures downtime losses from equipment failures and adjustments as a percentage of scheduled time. It is multiplied by performance rate and quality rate to calculate OEE.

## Study notes

- The document describes OEE as a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) measure.
- OEE is calculated as Availability Rate x Performance Rate x Quality Rate.
- The worked example uses availability 90%, performance 95% and quality 99% to obtain 84.6% OEE.
- The six major losses listed are failures, adjustments, minor stoppages, reduced operating speeds, scrap and rework.
- Some companies add other measures to the six major losses.
