# CODESYS SIN

Instructions · `SIN` · verification: source checked

SIN is an IEC 61131-3 operator that returns the sine of a number. The input is an angle expressed in radians and may be any numeric basic data type, while the result is written to a REAL or LREAL variable. It is shown in a structured text assignment and in FBD.

## Specification

| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Language | iec 61131 3 |
| Code | SIN |
| Dialect | CODESYS |

### Parameters

| Name | Data type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| input variable | any numeric basic data type | Value whose sine is calculated; measures the angle in radians. |
| output variable | REAL, LREAL | Receives the sine value of the input. |

## Study notes

- Permitted data types for input variables that measure the angle in radians: any numeric basic data type.
- Permitted data types for the output variable: REAL and LREAL.
- The permitted range for the input value is given as −263 to +263; on x86 and x64 systems, if the input value is outside the permitted range, the function returns the input value.
- Example: SIN (0.5) gives the result q := 0.479426.
- Shown in structured text as q := SIN (0.5); and also available in FBD.
