# LinuxCNC G42.1 Dynamic Cutter Compensation Right

Instructions · `G42.1` · verification: source checked

G42.1 is a LinuxCNC G-code that turns on dynamic cutter compensation to the right of the programmed path, with the cutter diameter given by the D word. It works like G42 but also lets the program specify the tool diameter directly; the optional L word sets tool orientation and defaults to 0.

## Specification

| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Language | gcode |
| Code | G42.1 |
| Group | cutter compensation |
| Syntax | G42.1 D- <L-> (right of programmed path) |
| Dialect | LinuxCNC |

### Parameters

| Name | Description |
|---|---|
| D | Cutter diameter. |
| L | Tool orientation; defaults to 0 if unspecified. |

## Safety

- It is an error if the YZ plane is active.
- The L number must be in the range 0 to 9 inclusive.
- Using the L number is an error when the XZ plane is not active.
- It is an error to command cutter compensation on when it is already on.

## Study notes

- G41.1 is the left-of-path counterpart to G42.1 in the same section.
- G41.1 and G42.1 behave the same as G41 and G42 but add direct programming of the tool diameter.
