The Beckhoff CX2072 is an embedded PC CPU module in the CX2000 series. It uses an Intel Xeon D-1567 12-core processor at 2.1 GHz with 8 GB DDR4 RAM and boots from a CFast card. It runs Windows 10/11 IoT Enterprise or TwinCAT/BSD and supports TwinCAT 3 automation tasks distributed across CPU cores.

- 12-core Intel Xeon D-1567 CPU; TwinCAT 3 can distribute automation tasks across the CPU cores.
- Main memory is 8 GB DDR4 RAM; ex-factory options CX2900-0205, -0206 and -0207 expand it to 16, 32 or 64 GB.
- Boots from a CFast card; the CFast slot is provided but no card is included.
- Internal 128 kB NOVRAM acts as persistent data memory when no UPS is used.
- Up to two mass storage modules (CX2550-0010 CFast or CX2550-0020 2½-inch SSD) can be plugged between power supply and CPU, for up to three mass storage devices total.
- CX2000 series system modules can be connected on the left or right; internally they connect via PCI Express.
- Supported operating systems include Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, Windows 11 IoT Enterprise 2024 LTSC and TwinCAT/BSD.
- TwinCAT 3 runtime (XAR) is preinstalled without licenses; licenses must be ordered separately.
- Minimum CFast capacity: 20 GB for TwinCAT/BSD and Beckhoff RT Linux, 40 GB for Windows 10 IoT Enterprise; Windows 11 IoT Enterprise needs at least 80 GB disk space.
- Optional interfaces include EtherCAT master/slave, PROFINET RT controller/device, PROFIBUS master/slave, CANopen master/slave, RS232/RS485/RS422 and additional Ethernet ports.
- Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 2016 LTSB extended support has ended; security updates are no longer available.
- Cooling is by an integrated fan with ball bearings and speed monitoring.
